The gallery contains map sections taken from the original tithe maps of 1839 and 1859. The 1839 was inaccurate because the map was drawn up from documents and maps held by land-owners, which were often out of date. The 1859 Nonington tithe map was drawn from an actual survey and is therefore very accurate. It’s worth noting that the names of fields and woods often changed in the twenty years between the maps, and are different to the present, which can make research very confusing.
