On September 2nd., 1752, the Gregorian calendar was introduced and to synchronize it the calendar was advanced by 11 days, resulting in Wednesday, September 2nd. being followed by Thursday, September 14th. This should be bourne in mind when referring to dates prior to the new calendars adoption. For example, if a child was borne on February 26th, 1555, and died on March 26th, 1556 they would have been one month old, not one year old.

William Garnish/Garlinge born c 1580-85, buried 21st February 1623 (1624) Barham. No name of wife or date of marriage known. Probably a son of John Girlinge/Garlinge of Alkham Parish, not far from Barham.

Ann, baptised Barham 31st October 1619. Father recorded as William Garlinge. The event was recorded in the register in a different hand.
Garlinge was not a common name and does not seem to appear in the surrounding parish registers at this time, but the spacing between births of John Garlinge's children indicates either long absences, possibly at sea, or, more likely, moving to other parishes for work. I hope to find a definite link very soon.
